I give guitar lessons to children. Last week, I walked into the home of one of my students and noticed that they had a fully decorated Christmas Tree up in the living room. It's none of my business really. I suppose they could put it up after the Fourth of July and it wouldn't have any effect on my daily life. I just felt a little sad about it.
I'm certainly not the first one to comment on how the stores are putting out their Christmas merchandise earlier and earlier each year. People have been complaining that Thanksgiving is overlooked for a number of years. Now some places have Christmas decorations out before Halloween.
I'm not about to wax philosophic on what Christmas means to me, and I wouldn't presume to tell you what it should mean to you. I just wonder if it becomes a little less special to the children when they are surrounded by it for over 2 months.
